Fruits and veggies of all colors provide us with many essential nutrients to help us grow and stay healthy. Although most of us understand their importance, it can be challenging to eat the recommended number of fruits and veggies each day. Luckily for you, doing so just got easier!

RED FOODS

Help keep the heart healthy and can help prevent certain types of cancer.

How to incorporate more RED foods in your day:

  • Try slightly frozen cherries for dessert
  • Add pinapple salsa to your tacos
  • Cut red bell peppers into rings and have fun dipping in dressing
  • Fill raspberries with yogurt for a yummy snack

ORANGE/YELLOW FOODS

Promote healthy skin and vision and can help strengthen the immune system.

How to eat more ORANGE/YELLOW foods!

  • Slight frozen mango chunks for a refreshing dessert!
  • Pair dried appricots with some nuts for a super snack.
  • Try pre-cut fozen butternut squash
    • Roast on a backing sheet at 400 degrees, drizzle with olive oil and bake for 25-30 minutes.

GREEN FOODS

Promote healthy bones, teeth and good vision. They can also help reduce risk of certain types of cancers like colon or bladder.

How to eat more GREEN foods?

  • Try snap peas. They are sweet, crunch and perfect to eat raw for an easy side.
  • Try roasting Brussel Sprouts to bring out their natural sweetness.
  • Salad kits are a great way to explore new greens like kale or spinach.

BLUE /PURPLE FOODS

Support healthy aging and promote healthy memory function.

How to eat more BLUE/PURPLE foods?

  • Dried prunes, diced or whole are a great satisfying snack for a sweet tooth.
  • Blueberries are packed full of good-for-you nutrients.
  • Try purple cabbage! Add a couple of shredded leaves to your usual salad.

WHITE FOODS

Prevent certain types of cancer and help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

How to eat more WHITE foods?

  • Try mashed cauliflower. Make it fresh or you can find it in the freezer section.
  • Add finely chopped mushrooms to any ground beef dish.
  • Use turnips any way you use potatoes. Try them baked, boiled or stewed.
